California Octuplets, a/k/a Irresponsibility

On Monday, January 26, Nadya Suleman, an unemployed 33 year old single mother of six children in California, gave birth to eight more. Was this some natural, multiple birth? No. Nadya has been quite calculating about her baby production. Her six existing children had all been born as a result of in-vitro fertilization.

Was raising six children while unemployed and living with her parents enough of a challenge for this self-obsessed baby machine? Quite obviously, no.

So she had multiple embryo implants and, voila, eight more babies pop out. That means 14 grandchildren, and 1 daughter, will soon be living with the oh-so-proud grandparents.

Her parents declared bankruptcy. Kind of goes with the moral bankruptcy of their daughter.

What are her plans? She has hired (?!) a public relations firm to arrange for the inevitable tour of the talk shows that have come to pass as our society's culture/entertainment/education/loosener of bowels. Nadya's price? Well, we know what she is, so it's only a matter of negotiating a price, is it not? On February 2, Fox News reported that she is seeking $2 million from Oprah, et cetera. Obscene. Degrading. Disgusting.

Will companies pander to her for her endorsement of everything from baby food to diapers in exchange for free products? Will 'newspapers' like the National Enquirer pay big bucks for exclusive photos? You betcha.

Just think, she's still plenty young enough to have several dozen more. This is America. She only TIED the record for multiple births. She can do better than that! Maybe The Guinness Book of World Records will arrange for live video coverage of Nadya's World Record Birthing Attempt! Nine? No. Ten. Hogwash. A Baker's dozen! 13!

Does Nadya not care about personal responsibility? What about a sense of social responsibility? Why employ extra-ordinary medical methods to add 14 children to an already overpopulated planet? What will young girls think when they read about the publicity and riches that will undoubtedly be showered upon Nadya? Positive role model, huh?

Let's hope that these 14 children can adapt to this bizarre situation, and live healthy, happy, well-adjusted lives. Unlike their mother.

Finally, a topic that'll make most conservatives and liberals reach across the aisle and shake hands in agreement. All this time the conservatives were petitioning to shut down abortion clinics. If they do that, they better be willing to shut down fertility clinics as well.

If the Christian conservatives were REALLY so Christian, they'd know the Bible says that we are all brothers and sisters. That said, why are they crying for killing unborn babies to be made illegal while human Xerox machines pumping out more babies en masse while orphaned and abused children go unwanted is perfectly fine?

Why do these people who seek fertility treatments think they're too good to adopt someone who already exists and isn't wanted?!

Me, I don't ever want any kids so maybe that's why my point of view is so slanted, but I don't think we should be artificially creating them if we as a race can't take care of the ones we already have.

I agree with every point you made, Bfoxy. I especially like your term "human Xerox machines".

Adopting 14 unwanted orphaned children would have turned this woman into an admired role model instead of a poster child for selfishness.

Your point of view is not slanted because you don't want any children. I admire that outlook and applaud you for it. Again we have to ask why news reports, at least the ones I've seen, haven't touched on the adoption option.

Adopting 14 unwanted children would turn anyone into a role model...except this woman wouldn't be allowed to adopt 14 children. She wouldn't have been able to adopt ANY because she's unemployed and living with her parents.

True. I guess we have to leave that level of adoption to Angelina Jolie and hubby.

Also, let's not forget, if she's got a 20 on the sperm donor then that guy is gonna have to ante up on 216 monthly payments times 8. Ouch. Have the reports even mentioned him?

This person has now started the talk show rounds obviously trying to capitlize on her 15 minutes of "fame".

The doctor who allowed this strange situation to occur should lose his meds license. Blinded by medical fees more than a moral obligation to do the right thing I think.

Medical science gone amok.

This procedure was developed I believe to help childless couples to have children, not to help establish a new category for Guiness Book of World Records on multiple births through artificial means.

This women is also in need of psycho help also. Something is wrong with her thinking I believe.

GOOD! I hope that doctor burns.

Bfoxy - I have seen no mention of the sperm donor.

Wayne in Pa - I wonder if the doctor is also hoping on capitalizing on his 15 minutes of 'fame'.
